What Is the New Two-Exam System for CBSE Class 10?
Under the new scheme, Class 10 board exams are held twice a year:
- Phase 1 (main exam): compulsory for every student, held in February-March.
- Phase 2 (second exam): optional improvement/compartment attempt, held around May. According to education portals, only theory papers are reattempted in Phase 2.
If you appear in both phases, CBSE considers the better score in each subject for your final result (the “best-of-two” rule). The final consolidated marksheet comes after Phase 2 results are declared. Always read the official CBSE circular for the exact rules before choosing to appear in Phase 2.
